Maxi-Cure Extra Thick Cyanoacrylate
The one that works like a putty, not just a glue.
Maxi-Cure is Bob Smith Industries' extra-thick CA, and the go-to choice for most plastics, including GE's Lexan, which makes it the best option for plastic model assembly. Paired with INSTA-SET, it outperforms putty for modifying parts or filling voids, curing to a finish that can be carved with a knife or razor blade, then sanded and feathered until it's indistinguishable from the plastic itself. It also bonds fiberglass, hardwood, metal, and rubber better than any other hobby adhesive, and it's a strong choice for bonding RC car tires. For fiberglass's cloth-textured interior surface, scrape the bonding area with a razor blade or coarse sandpaper first, this applies to Maxi-Cure or any adhesive you're using there.
Outside the hobby world, Maxi-Cure has become a favorite in archery for fletching vanes onto aluminum and carbon arrow shafts, valued there for being both the strongest option and usually the least expensive.
To apply, unscrew the top from the nozzle, using the extender tip for finer applications. Apply Maxi-Cure to one side of the parts being joined, then hold them tightly together for 10 to 20 seconds. For larger bonding areas, lay down serpentine beads with enough spacing to let the adhesive spread. If any CA oozes from the joint, a spray of Insta-Set accelerator will cure it in place. Full strength is reached in three hours, and cured CA holds up across a temperature range of -40 to 220°F. Wipe the nozzle clean before replacing the cap, and soak the extender tip in acetone for cleaning.
A couple tips from the team: Wipe the nozzle clean and cap the bottle tightly after every use, a clogged or dried-out tip is the easiest way to lose a bottle before it's actually empty. And keep the bottle refrigerated when it's not in use, CA has a much shorter shelf life at room temperature, so that habit alone can add months of usable life to a bottle.
Works best on:
Soft wood, hard wood, glass and metal, fiberglass, ceramics, hard plastics, rubber, laminating, reinforcing.
Works good on:
Balsa wood, water-resistant applications.
Available in three sizes
The .5oz bottle is sized for occasional repairs and single projects. The 1oz bottle is a solid middle ground for regular use. The 2oz bottle is the better value if you go through CA often.
