Some greases chase a reputation. This one already has one.

If you've spent time in this hobby, there's a good chance you've heard of Udder Butter, long before you ever saw the name on our site. One of the go-to greases across the hobby, not because it does one thing perfectly, but because it does almost everything better than most of the specialty greases built for just one job, across a genuinely wide range of RC applications rather than one narrow niche.

It's not a do-it-all grease, and we won't pretend otherwise. What it is, is a do-most, and it does most of those jobs better. It handles gears, axles, transmissions, bearings, shock linkages, gaskets, seals, O-rings, swing arm pivots, portals, differentials, and much more. There are a couple of places we'd point you elsewhere: genuinely massive vehicles in the eighty pound and up range, closer to small ATVs than RC, and inside a tenth-scale ball differential specifically, where the pressures involved can be more extreme than what this grease is built for. Outside of those, it's hard to find a spot in the hobby where Udder Butter doesn't belong.

A quick but important distinction: waterproof grease doesn't mean it waterproofs things, it means the grease itself is waterproof. It won't mix with, break down, or wash away in water, so it keeps doing its job even in wet or fully submerged conditions, including saltwater.

This isn't a product we threw together and left alone. Udder Butter is now on its fourth formula, refined over roughly a decade and a half of real use across the hobby, each version sharpening what already worked rather than starting over.

Udder Butter comes in three sizes, and which one you reach for depends on how you work. The 2lb tub and 8oz container are the better tool for the fill-and-wipe technique, since scooping generously and removing the excess is easy whether you use a finger or a glove. The 40ml syringe trades that flexibility for pure convenience, dispensing precisely where you want it with no scooping at all, though once it's out, it's not going back in so easily, so it suits smaller, more targeted jobs better than a full fill-and-wipe process.

And yeah, we made it the color of actual butter.

Some tips from the team:

• Old habits die hard here. Piling on grease, packing housings tight, leaning on extra volume for extra protection, or counting on excess grease to settle and reapply itself is a perfectly reasonable instinct with most greases, but Udder Butter plays by different rules, and holding onto that old instinct means never actually seeing what makes it different.
• On gears, the goal isn't a coating, it's a fill. Wipe it directly over the teeth to pack them, then take a second pass wiping away the excess, until the gear looks like it never had teeth machined into it at all.
• Anywhere else on the part where you're just after rust and corrosion protection rather than a friction point, the metal only needs to glisten, no visible buildup required. Udder Butter is remarkably tacky and adhesive, but it won't cling to itself, so that thin layer is the ideal application, by design.
